Besides being a longtime New York Giants fan, it seems like Jon Bon Jovi will have another team to root for. His son Jesse Bongiovi has joined the Notre Dame University football team.

Jon Bon Jovi’s son has eared a spot on the team as a walk on.

“He’s a tough kid,” said Brian Kelly, Notre Dame head coach according to Fox News. “The kids really like him. They respect him. They don’t look at him as a rock star’s son. They look at him as a kid that loves Notre Dame and wants to play football and help this team.”

The freshman is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weights 1983 pounds and was a standout at Poly Prep High School in Brooklyn. He is a two-time letter winner in high school, where he also lettered in lacrosse, according to his Notre Dame media page.

“Jesse has earned his spot on the (roster),” said Kelly.

Seems like football runs in the family’s blood. Bongiovi’s father also played football as a kid. Jon Bon Jovi is the former owner of the Philadelphia Soul arena football team.

As football season starts, Bon Jovi is also touring for their “Because We Can” tour. Regardless of the split between Richie Sambora and Bon Jovi, the band moves on and continues their tour. The band will play at the Pinnacle Bank Arena on October 20.

We hope Jon Bon Jovi will get a chance to support his son at a few of his games in the middle of touring.

The tour follows the release of the group’s album “What About Now.”

Richie Sambora has recently been kicked out of the tour after refusing his bandmates suggestion to help with allegation of substance abuse.

Jon Bon Jovi and Sambora have not talked since April after Jon tried to convince his bandmate to go to rehab, and it looks like an intervention is not happening.

Guitarist Phil X, who has filled in for Sambora in the past, will continue backing frontman Jon Bon Jovi during this tour.

Sambora is gone from Bon Jovi, but is not completely out of the spotlight. He released his own single, “Come Back as Me,” and will continue to receive a portion of the income from the tour as he co-wrote most of the songs and he appears on merchandise.

Tickets for the Lincoln show, $29.50 and up, will be available at Ticketmaster.com, the arena box office, or by phone at 800-745-3000. An on-sale date has not yet been announced.
