“Downton Abbey” fans have a lot to look forward to this week: the official Season 4 trailer will be released this Saturday, August 31. In the meantime, a 10-second teaser trailer has been released, giving viewers a glimpse of the drama to come in Season 4.

The trailer simply shows a door opening in Downton Abbey, while Dame Maggie Smith speaks in a voiceover as the Dowager Countess.

“You have a straightforward choice before you: choose either death or life,” the Dowager says, presumably speaking to Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery), who is in mourning after the death of her husband, Matthew (Dan Stevens) in the final seconds of the Season 3 finale.

Michelle Dockery has also spoken about what’s coming in Season 4 and revealed her reaction to Dan Stevens’ decision to leave the show.

"When I heard Dan was leaving, my first reaction was, 'Oh, c**p. What is going to happen? Where can the story go now?” Dockery told The Sun.

“But I think that, as much as it was sad to see Dan go, it opens up an opportunity for a new chapter and something quite different for Mary and other characters,” she added.

"In this series, Mary actually has more than one love interest. One is an old family friend who she hasn't seen since she was a child,” Dockery revealed.

She added that Lady Mary will also struggle to raise her infant son alone.

"Mary was never going to be a very maternal mother,” Dockery said.

"To begin with, it's hard to bond with the baby because she looks at him and sees Matthew,” she explained.

"So motherhood is a slow process for Mary. She's incredibly strong and she has the strength to kind of see it through."

"Throughout the series, Mary slowly comes back to life and, of course, it's important for her to eventually move on,” Dockery revealed.

"But it is kind of touch and go in the beginning. She is in a really, really dark place."
