“Mad Men” star Christina Hendricks recently opened up to Access Hollywood about her character Joan Harris’ evolution and the possibility of a Season 8.
When asked if the series could continue beyond the Season 7 finale, Hendricks said that she would love it if “Mad Men” never ended, but unfortunately it’s highly unlikely to see the 1970s.
“I’m always throwing that out there, I want to do this job forever and ever and ever,” she said. “But, I sadly believe that this is going to be our last season.”
“I think Matthew Weiner, our creator, has a very specific story that he wants to tell,” she explained.
“Knowing that you have an end, you can write up to that point, so it’s not left open-ended and I think it deserves a nice tie-up,” she added.
On Joan’s evolution from secretary to partner, Hendricks said, “It’s very rewarding, obviously, I want the best for Joan, I love her very, very much, but true to the form of the show, just because you’re called a partner doesn’t necessarily mean that you get all the same benefits as the men do.”
“She’s smart enough to know that she’s got to take things into her own hands and make things happen for yourself,” she added.
She also gave a hint about what time period Season 7 could show.
“We finished in 1968, so it’s yet to be seen if we’ll make it to the 1970s,” she said.
However, we won’t see Joan’s style change much.
“Joan has had the same hair for six seasons, it doesn’t change, it doesn’t matter what decade it will be, she will have that darn updo no matter what,” she joked.
