Benedict Cumberbatch has become a surprising heartthrob after his success on “Sherlock” and in “Star Trek: Into Darkness,” but despite being open about his desire for a wife and kids, Cumberbatch, 37, can’t seem to settle down.
Though he’s been linked to several women recently, including Russian model Katia Elizarova and his “Star Trek” costar Alice Eve, Cumberbatch hasn’t confirmed any relationships since his 2010 break-up with actress Olivia Poulet, who he dated for 12 years.
In a new article, the Daily Mail examines why Cumberbatch can’t find love, citing reasons including “crippling insecurities,” “see-sawing temperament,” “parano[ia] about money,” and newfound womanizing tendencies.
The Mail describes Cumberbatch as “a mass of insecurities — defensive about his schooling, constantly seeking approval, afraid to turn work down and filled with self-reproach over his failure to find a wife and have children.”
“Women — especially the independent, career-minded women he finds attractive — seem to be scared off by him,” the Mail continues.
“His see-sawing temperament is enough to deter any woman from marriage. To make matters worse, he’s highly cautious, even paranoid, about money.”
The Daily Mail goes on to detail reasons why Cumberbatch can’t find love, including not being over his relationship with his ex – “I still love Olivia to bits,” Cumberbatch is quoted as saying.
Cumberbatch is reportedly “a high-intensity boyfriend,” which may “come across as needy, even creepy, in a new relationship.”
He reportedly has a temper that has seen him turning on friends and colleagues in interviews, including calling Daniel Craig “bulls***” for claiming he did his own stunts and calling family friend Julian Fellowes’ “Downton Abbey” “sentimental, clichéd and f****** atrocious.”
Cumberbatch has also been recently spotted with several different women, leading some to wonder “whether stardom had turned Cumberbatch into a womanizer.”
“Real love, commitment and family won’t be so simple. However much he yearns for stability, Benedict Cumberbatch has a habit of sabotaging his own happiness,” the Daily Mail writes.
