Welcome to Fashion & Style

Twenty years ago when I came to live in New York from The UK, American fashion fell into two camps; head-to-toe designer looks featured on models, as seen in magazines, (runway was still an exclusive affair) and that of youth culture, individualized looks often inspired by musicians and mostly put together using vintage clothes, seen out and about and in clubs.

When Marc Jacobs tried to integrate the two in his infamous 1993 Grunge Collection for Perry Ellis, it was seen as a fashion faux pas and he was summarily fired. What a difference two decades, the Internet, H&M, Target and Kate Middleton make!

Today, fashion means so much more than wearing head-to-toe designer clothes, even if you can afford it. Fashion in 2013 is all about creating the right mix of high-low style and extends to which phone and tablet you use as well as your social media profile. Have you checked your Klout score recently?
